My sister works in a garments factory. She feeds this country and this country treats her like she is invisible

My sister leaves home at 6am. She comes back at 9pm on a normal day, sometimes later. She earns 9,500 taka a month making clothes that will be sold for hundreds of dollars in Europe and America. She has not taken a sick day in two years because they dock your pay. She is 24 years old and her back already hurts. When people in Dhaka talk about the economy growing, about Bangladesh becoming a middle-income country, I want to ask them: have you ever met someone like my sister? Have you asked her what she thinks about the growth? The RMG sector is the backbone of this country. Four million workers, mostly women, mostly from poor families, keeping the entire economy running. And they are completely invisible in every national conversation about success and progress. My sister does not complain. She sends money home to our parents in Narsingdi every month without fail. She is the strongest person I know. I just want someone to say out loud: these women are heroes. Not statistics.
